Consumer/Family Information
A word about Consumers. People who receive mental health services are often called consumers. People with mental illness who are active in the national mental health consumer movement decided consumer better portrayed individuals living with mental illness than patient or client.
The Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board has embraced the concept and philosophy of Mental Health Recovery. The CCCMHB has partnered with consumers, family members and provider agencies to empower consumers and provide assistance on the road to recovery. The Recovery Model is built on partnership, trust and hope, supporting choices for the achievement of individual recovery and promoting dignity, respect and excellent care. The CCCMHB also supports the Adult
Consumer
Advisory Council (ACAC), an active,
volunteer group of mental health
consumers and advocates. This group
frequently engages in letter-writing
campaigns and other advocacy to promote
the rights and dignity of all people,
and also advises the CCCMHB’s Board of
Governors on the needs of mental health
consumers. An example of how a member of
the ACAC speaks out in their community
and to their peers
is available here.
